Well-known author James Patterson and former 42nd president Bill Clinton co-wrote a new thriller that was released on Monday, June 4, 2018 called “The President is Missing,” which has sold 260,000 copies and counting.

The 516-page novel is very similar to Clinton’s own time in the White House. Clinton has stated that the book is based upon many of his own life experiences, and that he and the protagonist are similar, such as facing impeachment and being former governors of a southern state.

The book follows President Duncan during an international crisis. While America confronts the threat, all eyes turn to the President when word of a traitor in the Cabinet travels across the nation. President Duncan becomes a suspect and disappears from public view. The book follows the three dangerous days America endures while the search for the President turns into a manhunt.

President Duncan comes back to the public view to suspicion and questions from the whole nation. He tells a story no one can believe or trust.

“The President is Missing” is set across three days, and Patterson and Clinton capture readers with a complex and terrifying plot.

Spokesman Paul Bogarde tweeted, “’The President is Missing’ lives up to blockbuster status by selling more copies in its first week in stores than any other work of hardcover fiction published since 2016.”

The sales are high enough that “The President is Missing” was made the best-selling adult hardcover novel since the release of Harper Lee’s “Go Set a Watchman,” which was released in 2015.

“When I heard about the book, I knew I had to read it. I’ve heard really good reviews about the book and so far the book has done really good. I love thrillers and James Patterson is an amazing author,” says junior Tamta Bagishvili.

Clinton and Patterson’s thriller was the number 1 hardcover novel in the Washington market, even outselling Stephen King’s “The Outsider” seven times.

The majority of the book is written by Patterson while many core ideas were written by Clinton.

“If you haven’t read a James Patterson book, then you don’t know what you’ve been missing. When I heard Bill Clinton and James Patterson were writing a book together, I was so excited because I knew the book would be absolutely amazing,” says sophomore Shibani Ambani.

”The President is Missing” has done better than expected. The thriller has fans pausing in anticipation throughout the book.

Kruti spends her time outside school reading, painting, drawing, and binge watching shows on Netflix. Her current addictions are burritos, chocolate, Percy Jackson, “Harry Potter”, “Flash”, “Gotham”, “Criminal Minds” and “Sherlock”.  She loves reading comics and prefers DC over Marvel (even though Marvel is amazing, as well). She hates spiders, and if she had a pet it would either be a lion or a finger monkey. Kruti loves music and would listen to literally anything. Her favorite bands are The Wanted, Skillet, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco, BTS, and Exo. When she was younger, she wanted to be a writer or a librarian. She hopes that her time in Journalism will help her open up and write better.
